OBITUARY

Rife—Died in Madison township, Madison Co., Iowa, Feb. 25th, 1886, Charles F. eldest son of Mary C. Rife, aged 9 years, 11 months and 7 days.

In the death of little Charlie the widowed mother is bereft of one to whom she trusted for help and support in coming years of this life. The younger brother, Willie will miss a loved playmate, the day school his merry shout on the play ground, his teacher in the Sunday school a faithful and loved scholar.

Little Charlie was an intense sufferer during his illness of four weeks but bore it with great fortitude and courage, in fact he was an example of Christian patience and resignation to his suffering for one of his age. And all that the faithful physician the tender care and sleepless nights of the mother, and the kind and friendly aid of the neighbors could do did not save him from the Messenger Death.

The funeral services were conducted at the Worthington M.E. church by the writer of this article, after which the little body was conveyed to the grave, and as a last tribute of respect his Sunday school teacher and members dropped upon the coffin an evergreen twig to ever keep in memory their departed friend and school mate. And in this dark shadow of life to the bereft mother and little brother, and other friends, may the grace of our Father in Heaven be their comfort in this sore affliction.
