He was raised on a farm southwest of Dexter and graduated from Stuart High School with the class of 1965. After graduated, Kennie worked a year and then enlisted into the United States Air Force. He served from May 27, 1966 to July 9, 1970 with most of this time spent overseas in Vietnam. After several years of working construction when he was younger he started farming fulltime. Kennie enjoyed hunting, fishing and shooting pool with his friends. Other enjoyments included, reading western books, playing scrabble with friends, watching Jeopardy, having a good cold beer and most importantly spending time with his grandkids.
