Services will be held 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola. The Family will greet friends one hour prior to services on Wednesday. Order of Eastern Star services will also be held Wednesday at the conclusion of the funeral service. Interment will be at St. Charles Cemetery.

Survivors include son, Norville (Karen) Huston of New Virginia, IA; grandchildren, Shane (Jill) Huston of Urbandale, IA; Shannon (Jed) Howe of New Virginia, IA; five great-grandchildren; brother, Doyle (Irene) Gripp of Chariton, IA and sister-in-law, Edna Gripp of Indianola, IA.

Memorials may be directed to Chapter #338 O.E.S in Indianola or Unity Point Hospice.

Edith Darlene Huston, 91, New Virgina

Edith Darlene Huston, daughter of Garland Bumbarger, was born Aug. 2, 1924, in New Virginia, Iowa, and passed from this life Saturday, June 18, 2016, at Southern Hills Specialty Care at 91 years of age.

Early in life Darlene went to live with and was raised by her grandparents, Harry and Mollie Bumbarger. She received her education in New Virginia high school and later attended 4 C’s Business College in Des Moines, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Paul Edmond Huston on March 26, 1943, at Wichita Falls, Texas, and son, Norville blessed this union.

Early in their marriage, Paul was stationed at Dell Rio, Texas, while in the service and Darlene was at his side. Following his time in the service, the two of them returned to Walnut, Iowa, to work for the Posh family feeding cattle. In 1948, Darlene and Paul moved to a farm north of New Virginia were Paul and Norville raised Polled Herefords and Darlene raised her sheep. A couple moved to Indianola in 1972 and remained there until 2008 when they returned to New Virginia. Darlene was known to be very independent, you were on a “need to know basis” and most of the time you didn’t need to know.

She was a member of the Questers Club, as well as Indianola Chapter #338 O.E.S. She also enjoy camping and antique shopping with Paul.

Those relatives who preceded Darlene in death were her mother, Garland Bumbarger; step-father, Clyde Reed; husband, Paul Edmond Huston; grandparents, Harry and Molly Bumbarger and brother, Merrill Gripp.

Darlene leaves to cherish her memory; son, Norville (Karen) Huston of New Virginia, Iowa; grandchildren, Shane (Jill) Huston of Urbandale, Iowa, Shannon (Jed) Howe of New Virginia, Iowa; great-grandchildren Reed Shelby, Justice Huston, Hunter Howe, Kaelee Howe; brother, Doyle (Irene) Gripp of Chariton, Iowa; sister-in-law, Edna Gripp of Indianola, Iowa; as well as other relatives in many friends.

Services were held at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at 11 a.m. with Rev. John Long officiating. Interment will be in the St. Charles Cemetery, St. Charles Iowa.
