Mrs. Lester Root received word of the death of her father, Tom Powell at Emporia, Kan., early Tuesday, Jan. 12. Mrs. Root and other members of her father’s family left at once for Kansas. They brought the body back to Des Moines to the Caldwell-Bries funeral home from where funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 17, with burial at the Fairview cemetery north of Winterset.
