Donald Dean Callison

Rev. Donald Dean Callison, 79, a Northland resident of Kansas City, MO passed away Sunday, May 15, 2016, at home surrounded by his family. He was born May 11, 1937 in Winterset, IA to Lloyd B. and Hazel D. Callison.

Donald graduated high school in Winterset and earned a BS in Christian Education. He was dedicated to his Lord and his family. Donald served as Director of Echo Ranch Bible Camp in Juneau, AK for 18 years. He then served as Director of Church and Campus Ministries at Avant Ministries, formerly Gospel Missionary Union, until his retirement in 2003. Following retirement, he served on the Board of European Christian Mission/USA, where he later served as the Interim Director. He also served as President of the National Mission Board of Christian Union. Donald was blessed to have traveled and served his Lord in 19 countries on five different continents.

He married Elizabeth Ann Porta on Aug 30, 1958 in Ft. Wayne, IN. In addition to Beth, survivors include three children: Dean Callison (Diane) of Overland Park, KS; William Callison of Riverside, MO; and Dee Ann Abke (Chris) of Kansas City, MO; 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Donald was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Dwayne Callison.

A funeral service celebrating Donald’s life will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 20, 2016 at Northland Cathedral, 101 NW 99th St. Kansas City, MO 64155, with Pastor J. Lowell Harrup officiating. Burial will follow at Terrace Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10-11:00 a.m., prior to the service. Memorial contributions are suggested to Avant Ministries, Northland Cathedral Missions Program or Heartland Hospice.
