BILLIE SWEENEY, Winterset

November 6, 1975 - June 5, 2016

Billie Sweeney, 40, of Winterset died Sunday, June 5, 2016, at her home, surrounded by family and friends.

A visitation will be held 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, June 10, at Ochiltree Funeral Service with family present to receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 11, at the Winterset Community Church with burial following in the Winterset Cemetery.

Memorials to the family for a later designation and online condolences may be left for the family at ochiltree.com.

Billie JeanMarie Smith, the daughter of James and Roberta (Woods) Smith, was born November 6, 1975, at the Clarke County Hospital in Osceola. She graduated from Clarke Community High School in 1994 and during high school she was an All-State Basketball Player. Billie went on to graduate from Waldorf Junior College where she played basketball. She later received her B.A. in Education from Simpson College which resulted in her teaching career. Her marriage to Zach Sweeney took place on June 23, 2001, at the First Christian Church in Osceola.

Billie was a teacher and coach having worked in the Tri-County, Clarke Community, and Winterset Community School Districts. She also worked, for a short time before teaching in Winterset, at Legacy Financial in Des Moines. She was a huge Winterset Husky supporter, fan, and coach having been involved with many activities throughout the years.

All this said, Billie would most wish to be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister and aunt who loved nothing more than spending time with her family.

She was a very active member of the Winterset Community Church and appreciated the love and support of the congregation through the years. She enjoyed fishing, loved sports and especially enjoyed watching the Broncos. Billie was competitive and was a fighter and though she had many difficult days, she always made the day brighter for those around her.

She is survived by her husband, Zach Sweeney, son, Jaden Sweeney both of Winterset, her parents, Jim and Bert Smith of Osceola; siblings, Jamie (Leann) Smith of Truro, Jaci Smith (David Watson) of Murray, and Mark Browne of Osceola. She is further survived by her in-laws, Pat and Katy Sweeney of Waterloo, sister-in-law, Erin Sweeney of Des Moines, brother-in-law, Ryan (Belinda) Sweeney of Osceola; 11 nieces and nephews, David, Daniel, Libby, Connor, Maeci, Jalie, Randi, Bailey, Dalton, Dylan, and Maddie; extended family and a host of friends.
