Betty Marie Wickett

Betty Marie Wickett, daughter of Dwight Reuben Hagan and Blanche Mary (Gracey) Hagan was born September 30, 1929 in Warren County, Iowa and passed from this life Sunday, May 22, 2016 at Good Samaritan Care Center in Indianola, Iowa at 86 years of age.

Betty received her education in New Virginia and Truro Schools. She was united in marriage to Richard Dean Wickett on March 15, 1947 at Hiawatha, KS and three children blessed this union.

Betty lived most of her life in the New Virginia area. Betty's first job as a young woman was as a telephone operator at the switchboard office in New Virginia. She operated her own in-home daycare for 18 years, as well as working outside the home at Boles Machine Shop. . She cooked for the New Virginia Lions Club for 10 to 15 years and worked as a school cook for the Interstate 35 Schools for over 20 years, and also Clarke Community Schools, retiring in 1991. Betty was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in New Virginia; the Red Hat Society; and was a willing worker for the United Methodist Women for over 40 years.

Betty enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren, reading newspapers, crocheting, antiquing, collecting glass baskets, and loved to shop.

Those relatives who preceded Betty in death were her father, Dwight in 1938, mother Blanche Proudfoot and step-father, Duane Proudfoot, husband, Richard Dean Wickett (1998), son Douglas Dean (2014), sister Kathleen Shane, and brother Dean Proudfoot.

Betty leaves to cherish her memory; son, Robert (Brenda) Wickett of New Virginia, IA, daughter, Julie (Rob) Landstrum of Norwalk, IA, daughter-in-law, Charlotte Wickett of New Virginia, grandchildren Sonya Ostling of West Des Moines, Rhett Wickett of New Virginia, Brian (Misty) Wickett of New Virginia, Sarah (Joel) Adams of Gretna, Nebraska, Nathan Wickett (Jill Stuart) of New Virginia, and Paige and Tyler Landstrum of Norwalk, great-grandchildren, Jessica (Dylan) Duggins, Garrett Ostling, Dillion (Elizabeth Rucker) Wickett, Dalton and Josie Wickett, Devin Adams, and Noah Wickett; and great-great-granddaughter Braelynn Wickett; brothers Robert (Jeanette) Hagan of Urbandale and Forrest (Jan) Proudfoot of New Virginia; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Good Samaritan for their care during the last six years. There are too many to name, but Betty loved them all and enjoyed the many tablemates and friends she made there.

Memorials may be directed to New Virginia Fire and Rescue, New Virginia United Methodist Church or Good Samaritan Society of Indianola
