Janet Elizabeth Joyner, Carmel, Indiana

Janet Elizabeth Jackson Joyner was born to Wallace Gladstone Jackson and Fonda Hester Jackson in Des Moines, Iowa, on Nov. 16, 1934. She graduated from Earlham High School in Earlham, Iowa, and attended Earlham College in Richmond, Ind.

She was married to David William Joyner in Earlham, Iowa, on June 14, 1953. Janet mostly worked as a stay-at-home mom taking care of her three boys in Carmel, Ind. In the 1980s and 1990s, she worked as a sales associate for SPAR mini-barns in Houston, Texas; Foley’s in Humble, Texas; and then for Apple Tree Kids in Kingwood, Texas. Her interests included a life-long love of basketball, as she played basketball in high school, viewing other sporting events, and watching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren play sports and participate in artistic endeavors. She loved attending films and traveling with her husband, David, to play golf.

Janet was preceded in death by her husband, David Joyner; her father, Wallace Jackson; her mother, Fonda Jackson; her brother, William Jackson; and her daughter who died at birth.

She is survived by her sister, Jane Jackson Drury of Tecumseh, Mich.; sons, William David Joyner (Claudia Cordaro) of Noblesville, Ind., John Wallace Joyner of Indianapolis, Ind., and Daniel Cebren Joyner of Indianapolis, Ind.; grandchildren, Michael Joyner, Joan Joyner Moore (Matthew Moore); and great-grandchildren, Shane Lee, Layla Joyner, Elizabeth Joyner, Kaiya Moore, Isaac Moore and Gabriel Moore.

Family and friends will gather on Saturday, May 21, at 4 p.m. in Carmel Friends Church (651 W. Main St., Carmel, IN), where the Celebration of Life service will begin at 5 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be given to The American Heart Association.
