Phillip Walter Bindel passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2016. He was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on April 20, 1954, to Walter and Nellie Bindel. Phil attended school and graduated in the class of 1973 from Winterset. He served his country in the US Navy and received an honorable discharge.
Phil married Julie Larson on Dec. 26, 1976. They were blessed with three children: Amy (Corey) Dutchuk, Kimberly (John) Crosen, and Daniel (Sherri) Bindel. He was very proud of his six grandchildren: Kelly, Noah, Grant, Autumn, Ethan and Savannah. He is also survived by his mother, Nellie Bindel of Winterset; his siblings, Patty (Steve) Ashbaugh of Des Moines, Tom (Lisa) Bindel of Bluegrass, Iowa; and Christy (Mark) Brittain of Winterset; and their families.
Phil was employed for many years with Kruegers Enterprises, and lately at Keystone Automotives and Fareway in Grimes.
Phil and Julie are members of Gloria Dei Lutheran (8301 Aurora Ave., Urbandale). Visitation was held at the church at 10-10:45 a.m. today (Wednesday, May 18), with a memorial service following at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Sunny Hill Cemetery in Grimes.
Phil will be missed greatly by his family and many friends. Donations in memory of Phil will be given to his six grandchildren’s education funds.
