Obituaries

Chester W. Allen, 75, of 6745 Townsend Ave., Urbandale, died of cancer Wednesday at home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Westover Funeral Home, with burial at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Mr. Allen was born in Des Moines and had lived in the area since 1950. He was a retired meat cutter at Amend’s grocery, an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the United Church of Christ, Lions Club and Veterans of Foreign Wars, all of Urbandale.

Survivors include his wife, Jane; five daughters, Joanne Stolt of Des Moines, Barbara Bagby of Waukee, Susan Hutchinson of Montezuma, Joyce Daly of Deep River and Janet Allen of Portland, Ore.; two sons, Craig and John, both of Des Moines; a brother, Clarence of Hesperia, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to his church or Hospice of Central Iowa.
