CARLENE COOK, Earlham, Ia

Carlene Cook, 88, of Dallas Center, formerly of Earlham, passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center. Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. on Friday, April 15th at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Earlham. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Bear Creek Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Spurgeon Manor or the Earlham Friends Church and sent in care of Johnson Family Funeral Home, PO Box 246, Stuart, IA 50250. Carlene was born on April 13, 1928 to Bernard and Verle (Cook) Barnett in Earlham, Iowa. She attended Earlham schools and graduated from Earlham High School. Following high school she attended William Penn College. Carlene then began working at National Traveler’s Insurance Company in Des Moines. She worked for 35 years before her retirement. While working Carlene and her sister Doris made their home in Des Moines.

Carlene was a lifelong member of the Earlham Friends Church where she was a pianist for many years playing at numerous weddings and funerals. Carlene and Doris volunteered at Methodist Hospital for 25 years. In their spare time they enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Marvin Cook, Weldon (Ruth) Cook, William Cook; and sister, Doris Cook.

Carlene leaves behind her cousins: Don (Deloris) Applegate of Earlham, Jean (Walter) Gilbert and their children Elizabeth and Zac of Earlham, Dan Applegate of Earlham, Sharon Duffy of Adel; and a host of extended family and friends that will miss her dearly.
