Everett Miller of Barney, a son of Mrs. Lizzie Miller, committed, suicide Monday morning about 7:30 o'clock by shooting himself through the head with a 32 caliber revolver.

He was married about 2 weeks ago to Miss Goldie Gilbert, a daughter of Mr. & Mrs. H. N. Gilbert of Barney who runs the hotel at that place, and he & his wife were staying at the hotel for a time, expecting to move in a short time to Gilbert's farm north of Winterset.

They arose at the usual time Monday morning, but young Miller told his wife he had some writing to do before coming down stairs. He wrote and sealed a letter to his wife, stating he had done wrong and did not care to live any longer and requested that he be buried from the church at Barney. He and his wife had no family trouble and no cause is known for the rash act.

Coroner Richards was summoned but did not consider it necessary to hold an inquest. The funeral was held at the Christian church in Barney Tuesday afternoon.

Suicide at Barney

The village of Barney was thrown into a fever of excitement last Monday by the death of Evert Miller who shot himself, death coming instantly. It is supposed that the cause that led him to commit the rash act was brooding over financial difficulties. Mr. Miller was married two weeks ago last Sunday to Miss Goldie Gilbert. He left a note stating that he wished to die and also told where he wished to be buried. The coroner was called but held on inquest as everything went to show that the rash act was premeditated. He leaves behind to mourn his loss a bride of two weeks, a mother, three brothers and three sisters, who have the sympathy of the entire community.
