June 14, 2013REINBECK – Virginia Dean Barnes, 83, of Reinbeck, died Saturday, June 8, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, of natural causes.
She was born Nov. 7, 1929, in Melrose, N. M., daughter of Shirley Oren and Leona Berry Hughes. She married Kenneth LaVerne Barnes on Aug. 29, 1953, in Eau Claire, Wis. He preceded her in death.
She grew up in the Melrose area, and then the family moved to Vancouver, Wash., in 1941. She joined the Women’s Army Corps serving from 1951 to 1953. After marriage, she and her husband lived in Waterloo before moving to the farm east of Reinbeck.
Survived by three daughters, Kathryn (Michael) Radl of Guttenberg, and Kristine Butterfield and Konnie Lee Neal, both Reinbeck; a son, Kenneth Lynn of Independence; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Velma Miller, Marjorie Cearley and Covita Bade; and a brother, Tony Hughes.
Preceded in death by: a grandson; a great-granddaughter; a son-in-law, Craig Willaby; and siblings, Shirlene Anderson and Jake, Irma, Ronald, Jerry and Dalton Hughes.
Services 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, Reinbeck, preceded by an hour of visitation, with burial in Young Cemetery, Truro.
