Marie Olive Marchel was born in Madison County, Iowa Feb. 27, 1853. Departed this life at her home in Attica, Kansas March 19th 1922, at the age of 69 years and 20 days.
She was married to Frank P. Hilton at Peru, Iowa, on Oct. 11, 1874. To this union were born 4 children, three sons and one daughter: Elvin B. Hilton, John Iver Hilton, Edward E. Hilton and Mrs. Mabel Vermilya, Elvin and Iver having preceeded her to her heavenly home. Edward Hilton and Mrs. Mabel Vermilya reside in Attica, Kansas, and are here present.
Sister Hilton was converted at the age of twelve years and united with the Christian church to which she remained a member until her marriage when she united with the Methodist Episcopal church with her husband.
Mrs. Hilton, together with her family, moved to Rice County, Kansas in 1892 and in 1901 moved to Harper county where she resided until her decease.
Sister Hilton was a faithful and consistent Christian, a true wife and a loving mother. No one knowing her life could but be impressed with the tender devotion of this life. She always had a good word for everyone. She was a patient sufferer, and like her Lord in her last moments she only thought of others. Her loved ones and friends will keenly fell the loss of one who helped make the world better.
