Chauncey Sweet Dies – Funeral Held At Jolley

Chauncey Byron Sweet was born July 16, 1889, and passed away after a lingering illness December 24, 1952, at Mercy Hospital in Fort Dodge at the age of 63 years 5 months and 8 days.

He received his education in the school at Winterset and early in youth he was baptized and became a member of the church there. When a young man he was employed at farming near Fonda. In the later years he worked on the railroad and in 1940 he moved to Jolley where he was a carpenter and in other work.

On March 3, 1915, he was united in marriage to Cynthia Little. To this union were born six children. Two children preceded their father in death, Elza in infancy and Georgia at the age of 10 years. His wife preceded him in death on Feb. 5, 1941.

Children who survive are Claude Sweet of Albert City, Dean Sweet of Pomeroy and Mrs. Leo (Hazel) Eaton of Jolley; also two step-children, Mrs. Harold Pearson of Newell and Leo Sweet of Manson; five brothers, Oscar of Lady Smith, Wisconsin, Charles of Sioux City, James, Henry and Zade of Winterset; one sister, Mrs. Henry Wiggins of Toledo, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; and other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, Dec. 27, at the Jolley Community Methodist church with the Rev. F. C. Preul in charge. "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "In the Garden" were sung by Margaret Ann Kelley, Shirley Ellis, Bonnie Nutter and Marilyn Hildreth. Those in charge of the beautiful floral tributes were Mrs. Frank Roberts, Mrs. Wayne Ohrtman and Mrs. Edward Meyer.

Pallbearers were Charles Roberts, Ralph Lillard, Dean Wollenzien, Edmund Nutter, Henry Doyen and Louis Passow. Interment was in the cemetery at Fonda by the side of his wife and daughters.
