Millard Allyn Knox, the son of John and Mary Knox, was born near Freeport, Illinois, Feb. 8th, 1875, and passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. M. F. Butner, at Earlham, Iowa, November 3, 1932, at the age of 57 years, eight months and 25 days. At the age of four he lost his father and a year later his mother. When he was seven he came to Iowa to live with an aunt on a farm near Minburn where he spent his boyhood, and received his education in the public schools, finishing at Minburn High School.

He was united in marriage to Nelle Blanchard Snow, of Dallas Center, on August 4, 1897, and to this union were born five children: Mrs. Morgan Butner, of Earlham, Opal A. of Des Moines, Mrs. Henry Covey, of Adel, Mrs. Lewis Hood, of Newton, and Eugene C. of Earlham. Two sisters, Sarah Vaughn, of Chicago, and Nettie Carey, of Perry preceded him in death.

Practically all his life was spent at Dallas Center, where he engaged in farming and later followed his trade as painter. He served on the fire department and as town assessor for many years.

He was a faithful member and officer in the Dallas Center I.O.O.F. Lodge No. 248. He was a good citizen, a kind neighbor and true friend—honorable, frank and sincere in his relations to others—loving and true in his home and to his family.

Late Tuesday afternoon while working, he was suddenly stricken with acute appendicitis, later complicated by peritonitis, which caused his death early Thursday morning.

Surviving him are his wife, four daughters, the son, two sisters, Mrs. Kathryn Vaughn, of Freeport, Illinois, and Mrs. John Meyer, of Minburn, one brother, Marshall Knox, of Granger; nine grandchildren and many other relatives and friends who sincerely mourn his departure.

He lived his life quietly and happily and we have the memory of precious things to comfort us in his passing on.
