WILLIAM EARL GIBSON, Jr, Dexter, Ia

William Earl Gibson Jr., 86, of Dexter passed away on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at the West Bridge Care Center in Winterset. Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. on Thursday, December 10th at the Dexter United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church. Graveside service will be held at 2 P.M. on Thursday, December 10th at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines. William was born May 10, 1929 the only son to William Gibson Sr. and Edythe (Marsh) Gibson in Valley Junction, Iowa. He grew up in West Des Moines where he attended school and graduated from Valley High School. Following graduation he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corp. He also served as a rescue paratrooper in Newfoundland (Greenland) and he served in the Navy-Air as a Bombardier-Navigator on a P2-V Neptune bomber. He lastly served in the United States Army in the 103rd Support Brigade. He was united in marriage to Marjorie A. Stiles on April 17, 1954 at the United Methodist Church in Valley Junction. To this union two sons were born: William Earl Gibson III and Russell J. Gibson. William worked several years for the Army at Fort Des Moines after the Vietnam War and lastly for the Iowa State Patrol Supply Station.

In 1977, William and Marjorie moved to Dexter. He assisted her in raising German Shepherds. He enjoyed working on model airplanes and collecting guns. William loved watching Westerns and war films. William was a member of the Dexter American Legion, the German Shepherd Dog Club of Des Moines, and he also served as Scout Master for the Boy Scouts of America.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marjorie and his parents, William and Edythe Gibson.

William leaves behind his sons, William Earl Gibson III (Darla) of Dexter and Russell J. Gibson (Lisa) of Dexter; grandchildren: Crista Marie Gibson and her children, Jayden and Layla, Rebecca Jean Sachwitz (Brandon), James Russell Gibson, William Earl Gibson IV (Kasandra) and their children, William (Liam) and Mayve, Nicholas Adam Gibson (Stephanie) and their son, Gus; and a host of extended family and friends that will miss him dearly.
