Obituary for DORIS M. COOK, Earlham

Nov 26, 1931 - Oct 24, 2015

Doris M. Cook, 83, of Dallas Center, formerly of Earlham passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at the Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center.

Funeral service will be held at 2 P.M. on Wednesday, October 28th at the Earlham Friends Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Bear Creek Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Earlham Friends Church or Spurgeon Manor and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com .

Doris was born on November 26, 1931 to Bernard and Verle (Barnett) Cook in Earlham, Iowa. She attended schools in Earlham and graduated from Earlham High School. Following high school she attended Earlham College for two years. In 1956, she began working at National Traveler’s Insurance Company in Des Moines. She worked for 37 years before her retirement. Doris took pride in her work having nearly a perfect attendance record. Doris and her sister Carlene made their home in Des Moines.

Doris was a lifelong member of the Earlham Friends Church where she served as an organist for many years playing numerous weddings and funerals. She volunteered at Methodist Hospital for 25 years. Doris and Carlene enjoyed traveling together and spending time with extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Marvin Cook, Weldon (Ruth) Cook and William Cook.

Doris leaves behind her sister, Bessie Carlene Cook of Dallas Center; cousins, Don (Deloris) Applegate of Earlham, Jean (Walter) Gilbert of Earlham and their children Elizabeth and Zac, Dan Applegate of Earlham, Sharon Duffy of Adel; and a host of extended family and friends that will miss her dearly.
