Perry Mapes Died Suddenly Monday

Funeral services were held for Eugene Perry Mapes, Earlham Town marshal at the Welch Funeral Home Wednesday, July 29 at 2:00 p.m. Rev. L. Willard Reynolds of the Friends church was in charge of the services.

Mr. Mapes died suddenly about 8:00 o’clock Monday morning. He had been down town for breakfast and had returned to the pump house. Roy Fry and Gordon Standing were working there and he told them he was not feeling well but thought he would feel better soon. Shortly after, he was found dead.

The casket bearers were his brothers, Howard Mapes, Leo Mapes, Sumner Mapes, Lester Mapes, Clarence Mapes and Henry Mapes. Music was by Mervyn and Irene McLennan. Doris Bricker was in charge of the flowers. Burial was in the De Soto cemetery. Mr. Mapes had been town marshal for the past several years and was also in charge of the pump house and disposal plant.

He is survived by six brothers and two sisters. He was the son of Charles and Amanda Mapes, and was born on March 28, 1900 in Madison county, Iowa, on a farm south of Earlham.
