GARNA REBIK, St Charles

Garna Eloise Rebik, daughter of Ivil L. Rhyno and Cora Alta (Beem) Rhyno was born July 15, 1932 in Winterset, Iowa and passed from this life Thursday, October 15, 2015 at Wesley Acres in Des Moines, Iowa at 83 years of age.

Garna attended elementary school in Peru and graduated from Truro High School. She was united in marriage to Harry Lawrence Rebik on December 6, 1958 in Colfax, Iowa and they had three children, Cheryl, Rhonda and Diana to make up their family with Harry’s children, Lavonne, Leanna, Leonard, Laverne and Lynette.

Garna enjoyed her life as a farm wife, helping and raising her family. She was a cook for 23 years at the I-35 school, where she was known as the “cookie lady” and many students called her “Mom.” She was a member of the St. Charles Parish Church.

She enjoyed sports, especially cheering on her own kids and grandkids. She loved the Iowa Hawkeyes and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. She loved reading romance novels and doing word search games. Her social outing consisted of going to Montross’ for coffee every Saturday morning. Her love of animals was endless. There wasn’t a stray dog or cat she didn’t know.

Those relatives who preceded Garna in death were her parents and husband Harry.

Garna leaves to cherish her memory; children, Cheryl (Jack) Kinney of St. Charles, IA, Rhonda McCulley of Des Moines, IA, Diana Rebik of Norwalk, IA. Along with her stepchildren, Lavonne Shearman of Des Moines, IA, Leanna (George) Kingery of Newton, IA, Leonard (Diane) Rebik of Newton, IA, Laverne (Denise) Rebik of Indianola, IA, Lynette (Robert) Garber of Pleasant Hill, IA; 18 Grandchildren; 17 Great Grandchildren as well as other relatives and many friends.
