Betty Countryman, 91, of Earlham passed away on Saturday, October 10, 2015. Visitation will be held from 6-8 P.M. on Wednesday, October 14th at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Earlham. Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. on Thursday, October 15th at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Earlham. Burial will be at the Wiscotta Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to HCI Hospice and sent in care of the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com .
Betty was born on February 27, 1924 to James and Byrdeena (Marsh) Baker Sr. in Redfield, Iowa. She grew up in Redfield and attended Redfield Schools. She was united in marriage to Clifford Countryman on December 7, 1940 in Redfield. To this union seven children were born: Bonnie, Cheryl, Dennis, Derek, Linda, Peggy and Brian. The family made their home in Wiscotta. She later moved to Earlham where she spent her final months.
Betty worked for several years as a supervisor for Look Magazine and later CDS where she retired after 32 years. She loved to spend time reading, crocheting, embroidering and working word-puzzles. She was an avid John Wayne fan and was able to visit his museum recently in Winterset. Betty’s biggest joy came from spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clifford; children, Cheryl Payne and Derek Countryman; sister, Evelyn Goodson ;daughter in law Diana Countryman, son in law, Dick Wolfe, great-grandchildren, Ryan Wakefield, Kara Payne and Corter Huebner.
She leaves behind her children: Bonnie (Keith) Hogan of Redfield, Dennis (Marty) Countryman of West Des Moines, Linda DeReus of Earlham, Peggy (Denny) Chisam of Holt, MO, Brian (Dianne) Countryman of Grand Island, NE; 24 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; brother, James Baker of Redfield; son-in-law, Truman Payne of Earlham and a host of other family and friends that will miss her dearly.
The family would like to thank HCI Hospice for their loving care they dedicated to Betty. They would like to thank the following Hospice personnel: Marsha, Sheri, Gene, Sandy, Amanda, Tanya, Karen, Kim and Mike.
