BESSIE LOREE ROCKEY, Truro

Bessie Loree Rockey, daughter of Otto Christensen and Esther Louise Brobst Christensen was born October 13, 1920 in Madison County, Iowa and went to the presence of her Lord and Savior Friday, August 28, 2015 at Winterset Care Center South at 94 years of age.

Loree received her education in rural St. Charles and graduated from the Truro High School in 1939. She was united in marriage to Harry J. Rockey on June 3, 1939 at what became the family home in Truro. Harry and Loree were blessed with five children, Herbert, David, Mary, Marcia and Norman.

Loree was a devoted housewife and mother. Over the years, Loree also helped many families with their housework and keeping their laundry in superb condition. Loree was also very devoted to and appreciated by Fred and Doris Reed for her many years of assistance.

She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in St. Charles and was also a former member of the Congregational Church of Christ in Truro, the Truro Kitchen Band whom she performed with at the Iowa State Fair. She was also involved in the Republican Party attending many caucuses through the years.

In her leisure time Loree enjoyed flowers, loved music, taught tatting to many people and even won various awards at the Iowa State Fair and even dabbled in poetry, and painting. She was a lifetime learner giving 110% to everything she did.

Those relatives who preceded Loree in death were her parents; husband, Harry J. Rockey, sister, Marcella Hiatt and grandsons, Michael J. Rockey and J. D. Mar.

Loree leaves to cherish her memory; son, Herbert (Marguerite) Rockey of Kennewick, WA; son, David (Vicki) Rockey of Truro, IA; daughter, Mary Rockey of Winterset, IA; daughter, Marcia Thoren of Des Moines, IA; son, Norman (Joanne) Rockey of Truro, IA; ten grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren as well as other relatives and many friends.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Calvary Baptist Church in St. Charles, Iowa
