LAWRENCE A. MONACO, Des Moines

Lawrence A. Monaco, age 55, passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 3rd surrounded by the love and comfort of his wife and children.

Larry was born August 14, 1959 to Lawrence A. and Donna G. (Hess) Monaco. He grew up in Des Moines, Iowa. As a young man, he traveled the Midwest playing drums in a band, which became a lifelong passion and talent.

Larry was united into marriage February 28, 1986 to Vicki (Crow) at the Little Brown Church. They began their lives together and started a family near Winterset, where they lived for 10 years. For the last 19 years, they made their home in Panora, Iowa. Larry and his wife had recently moved to Des Moines to begin the next chapter of their lives.

While playing music and hunting were among his favorite activities, most precious to him was his family. He was incredibly proud of the adults his children had become. They learned through him the importance of staying close as a family and to share humor and memories.

His family and friends are heartbroken for our loss…and feel a deep sense of gratitude for having Larry in our lives. We will miss the laughter, the love, the warmth and his generous spirit and strength.

Preceding him in death and to welcome him home are his parents, Lawrence and Donna, and his beloved sister, Laurie Monaco.

Larry is survived by his wife of 29 years, Vicki, his son Matthew (Lindsey) of Bondurant, daughter Sarah (Alex) of Ankeny, and Frank Monaco of Des Moines. His niece, Rita (John) Waters of Houston, TX and nephew, Randy Boles of Austin, TX also grieve his loss. Larry leaves behind two cherished granddaughters which he loved so dearly, Chloe Lynn Wheeler and Alora Day Monaco.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 6th at Hamilton's near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m. Friday, August 7th at the funeral home with burial immediately following at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association .
