Mrs. Francis Ann Emerson, daughter of Peter and Elizabeth Hircock, was born in the state of Ohio, Sept. 24, 1853 and departed this life at her home in Lorimor Jan. 20th, 1928 at the age of 74 years, 3 months and 26 days. When about 6 years of age her parents with the family, came overland to Winterset where she grew to womanhood and taught school in rural communities in Madison county.

She was united in marriage to William Henry Emerson of Peru, on Oct. 17, 1872. To this union were born five children, all of whom survive her: Elmer B. of Franklin, Nebraska; Melvin T., of Clayton, New Mexico; Niota Mae Jones of Des Moines, and Albert R. and Frank O. of Lorimor. All were present but one son, Melvin T.

Her husband preceded her in death on Feb. 23, 1918. She leaves to mourn her death, her children; one sister, Emma Reese of ------, and two brothers, Jas. and Ezra of Winterset, 14 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and a host of friends.

She united with the Baptist church in Winterset at the age of 12 years and ever since has been a faithful follower of her Lord and Master. She moved to Lorimor after the death of her husband, and united with the Lorimor Baptist church where she will always be remembered as one of the faithful ones. She will be missed by her church, especially by the Aid Society in which she always took an active part. All who knew her can well say she has lived a well spent life and could say as Paul of old said “To me to live is Christ and to die is gain.”
