Death of James Haxton

James Abraham L. Haxton, who formerly lived in Madison county, recently died at his home in the northern part of the state. Mr. Haxton came to this county in 1872 when he was six years of age. He was married to Miss Eva Cornman in 1889, and they lived at Dexter for eight years. Later they lived in Greenfield, and in 1901 they moved to Britt, where they have since resided.

He is survived by his mother, Mrs. John Haxton, four brothers, Homer, Joe, John and Chester, all of Britt, and one sister, Mrs. Stella Holverson. He is also survived by his wife and two daughters and one son, Mrs. Bessie Wright, of Des Moines; Ora Haxton and Mrs. Maude Wood of Britt. Burial was made in Britt.

J. A. L. Haxton

James Abraham Lincoln Haxton was born in Atica, Indiana, December 26, 1866 and died January 3, in the Mercy hospital at Mason City. When six years old he accompanied his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Haxton to Winterset, Iowa, where they lived until he was married January 17 1889, to Eva Carmen. They lived at Dexter, Iowa, eight years, at Greenfield, Iowa, three years and went to Britt in 1901, which place has since been their home.

His aged mother, Mrs. John Haxton, lives. There are four brothers living , Homer, Joe, John and Chester, all of Britt; and one sister, Mrs. Stella Holverson. One brother and one sister and his father preceded him in death. His wife, two daughters and one son survive. They are Mrs. Jessie Wright of Des Moines, Ora Haxton and Mrs. Maude Wood, of Britt. There are eight grandchildren. One sone Leslie laid down his life in defense of his country in 1918.

Mr. Haxton was baptized in the faith of the Christian religion. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen.

He was familiarly known as “Link” Haxton and was held in high esteem by a wide circle of friends. He practiced as a veterinarian all the years he had lived in Britt.

Funeral services were held January 6.
