Michael K. Cook, Earlham, IA

Michael Kelly Cook passed from this life to the next on Thursday, July 23rd, 2015.

Michael was the eldest son of LuVon and Doris Cook; born September 2nd, 1940. He grew up in Des Moines, Iowa, attended Roosevelt High School graduating in 1958, excelling in academics and athletics to include the diving team, baseball and football.

Mike served in the United States Army from 1962 until his discharge in 1968. He served as both a paratrooper and army medic. Army awards included the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Dominican Republic), Sharpshooter Badge with Machine Gun Bar, and Expert Badge with Rifle Bar. He enjoyed his time in the army and reminisced about it often.

His primary trade in life was that of a carpenter. He loved working with is hands, spending time in the outdoors and had a real zeal for life.

Mike is survived by his sister; Cheryl Vande Lune of Chandler, AZ, his brother David J. Cook (Annette) of Windsor Heights, IA and a daughter Cindy A. Riley of Earlham, IA.

Interment ceremony will be at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, 34024 Veterans Memorial Drive, Adel, IA, 50003 (exit 113, I-80) Tuesday, July 28th at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow at the VA Reception Center south banquet room of American Legion 403 in Van Meter, IA.
