Millard Fillmore Shepherd was born in Putnam county, Indiana, March 6, 1852, and died at Albia, Iowa, at the home of his sister, Mrs. James Spinks, May 31, 1910, aged 58 years, 2 months, and 25 days.
He came with his parents, Solomon and Susanna Shepherd, to Monroe county, Iowa, about the year 1859. He was married in 1872 to Miss Mary Shepherd at Winterset, Iowa. To this union were born three children. One child preceded him to the better land.
Mr. Shepherd was again married to Ellen Stafford and to this union four children were given, but none of the children were present at the funeral.
He also leaves to mourn his loss two sisters, Mrs. James Milligan and Mrs. James Spinks, both of Albia, and one brother, John W. Shepherd of Hot Springs, South Dakota who was not present at the funeral,
The deceased was clearly converted a few years ago at the Friends church under the labors of Lurana M. Terrell, but had not always kept his spiritual vision clear since then. On is bed of sickness he renewed his covenant with God and gave evidence that he was fully ready to go and patiently resigned all to the will of his loving Heavenly Father who doeth all things well.
During his protracted illness he was a very patient sufferer, never complaining nor speaking a word of murmuring, but said he was ready and willing and waiting to go.
The funeral was held at the Albia Friends church conducted by the pastor, Anna Ireland, from the text, Ecclesiastes 8:8, after which the remains were followed to their last resting place and interred in the Oak View cemetery to await the resurrection of the just.
_____________________Transcriber's note: Transcribed as published, his marriage to Mary Shepherd took place July 4, 1874 per Madison County Marriage Records.
