Maxine Brittain, 78, died February 23, 1999, at the Corning Nursing and Rehab Center. Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 26, at the United Methodist Church in Coming with the Rev. Clark Christian officiating. Burial was at North McDonald Cemetery in Jefferson Township, Madison County.

Maxine Brittain was born Oct. 17, 1920, to Bruce and Onida (Gilbert) Flesher of Gutherie Center. She married Gerald Seth Bnttain on July 30, 1937, in Bethany, Missouri. She worked at the Ankeny War Plant during World War II and was also a restaurant dishwasher. In 1956, she moved to Corning from Winterset. Maxine was a member of the United Methodist Church, Happy Hollow Country Club and the bowling league.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, one brother, one sister, one granddaughter, one grandson and one great-granddaughter. She is survived by two sons, Wayne Brittain (wife Betty) of Webb City, Mo., and Randy Brittain (wife Diane) of Mystic; four daughters, Judy Stockfleth (husband Weldon) of Omaha, Neb., Sharon Scott (husband Ed) of Corning, Linda Ashby of Coming and Vicki Hickman (husband Randy) of Winterset; three brothers, Willard Flesher of Lorimor, Darrell Flesher (wife Mary) of Melcher and Donald Flesher (wife Kathy) of Moscow; two sisters, Meizine Roberts (husband Don) of Chariton and Gayla Burke (husband Carl) of Powell, Missouri; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild. Funeral arrangements were handled by Coen-Beaty Funeral Home in Corning.
