Dyle R. Carter, son of Benjamin and Susan Williamson Carter, was born at Conger, Warren county, Iowa, October 7, 1887, and died at Mercy hospital, Des Moines, September 3, 1928, being 40 years, 11 months and 2 days old.

He was reared in Conger and at the age of 18 years he went to Des Moines to learn the barber trade. After he had finished the course he went to Patterson, where on December 1, 1907, he was married to Miss Ethyl Carter. To this union were born four children, Ruby, Ruth, a son dying in infancy, and Dyle. With the exception of four years spent on a farm near St. Charles, he had spent the rest of his life in Patterson and Des Moines, working in the barber trade. He was a loving husband, a devoted father and a true friend.

Six of his barber friends served as pall bearers.

Besides his faithful wife and three children, he is survived by his aged mother, now living at Wick; seven brothers and three sisters, Robert, Edd, Loren, and Mrs. Lilly Johnson, of Nebraska; Emery, Elza, and Mrs. Jessie Wade, of Des Moines; Will and Mrs. Marion Martin, of Winterset, and Okey, of Kansas City, also several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. His niece, Miss Dorothy Carter, was his attending nurse until the last. He had always enjoyed good health and it was hard to realize the seriousness of his sickness, but he rapidly lost the battle. He had been a member of the M.E. church at Wick since infancy, but during his last moments he was attended by the hospital chaplain, who administered baptism and the last rites of the Catholic church.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. C. C. McCaw, of the Park Avenue Church of Christ at Lilly’s funeral home, Wednesday, September 12th at one o’clock, and at the Patterson M. E. church at three o’clock, and the remains were laid to rest by the sid of his little son, who passed away 15 years ago.
