Mabel Briggs, 67, of Des Moines went to be with God, May 15, 2015. She died after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
She was born in Osceola, Iowa, to Sterling Major (Tex) and Mabel Fern McCasland. She was married to Dennis Cashatt and later divorced. Mabel graduated from North High School. She worked from age 15 until about 60 doing environmental services.
Mabel had a great love of God. She also loved animals. She had many dogs and cats. She spent much of her time lovingly taking care of her nieces and nephews. She loved taking baked goods to the Winterset County Fair and the Iowa State Fair.
Survivors include her brother, Steven McCasland (Charlene); nieces, Cindy Reed (Harry) and Christine Townsend (Kurt); nephews, Lawrene Yates, James Yates and Steven McCasland; great-nieces and nephews, Korbi McCasland, Nathina Simonton, Sylvia Townsend, Christian McCasland, Zachary Edwards, Amalee Larson, Aleea Larson, Barbara Reed, Joseph Reed, Blake Larson, Preston Pettifill and Madeleine Reed; and great-great-niece, Amethyst Herold.
She is preceded in death by her brother Gary McCasland; grandparents on her father’s side Myrtle and Walter Deitrick; grandparents on her mother’s side Lela and Ernest Patterson, Nephew Howard Rush.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, at Kale Funeral Home (301 S. Main St., Osceola).
Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 at Kale Funeral home in Osceola.
