James M. Douglas died at his home in Truro, Tuesday, June 12th, at the age of 84 years.

In the year 1849, he came to Iowa with his parents from Ohio, where they located in Van Buren county. For the past sixty-five years he has lived in Madison county, Ohio township, where he located with his wife and family. Being a pioneer of the county, he was well known in this vicinity and will be missed by his old friends. Of a family of seven children, two of them and the mother preceded him in death.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday, June 14th, from the Christian church in Truro, The Rev. G. E. Carnahan officiating. Burial in Hartman Cemetery.

James M. Douglas, son of John and Nancy Douglas, was born in Mahoning county, Ohio, July 24, 1833 and departed this life at his home in Truro, June 12th, aged 94 years, 10 months and 19 days. In 1849 he moved with his parents from Ohio to Van Buren county, Iowa.

May 17, 1855, he united in marriage to Priscilla Holmes. To this union seven children were born; Martin L., of Indianola; Alice, deceased; John H., of Booneville; Bessie M., of Truro; William Owen, of Dexter; Cora M., deceased and James Sever, of Kansas City, Missouri. He, with his wife, in 1862, moved to Madison county, of which he was a resident to the time of his death, residing in Ohio township for 65 years. The mother departed this life in 1910. In February 1914, he was married to Sophia Reither.

He leaves to mourn his death his wife, four sons, one daughter, fourteen grandchildren, thirty-two great grandchildren and one aged brother, of Stockport, Iowa, besides a host of friends and relatives.

He united with the Baptist church at and early age, of which he was a faithful member until his death. Uncle Jim, as he was known to everybody, was a kind and devoted companion and father, never complaining of his sufferings

Funeral services were held in the Christian church in Truro, June 14, at 2 o’clock, conducted by the Rev. G. E. Carnahan, pastor of the United Presbyterian church of St.Charles. Burial was made in the Hartman cemetery, south of Truro.
