The death of John Douglas occurred at 1 o’clock on Monday afternoon, March 17th. The funeral was held at Union Chapel on Wednesday. His daughter, Mrs. Bessie Swibel, of Grand Rapids, Minnesota, and a sister, Mrs. Bessie Burnham, of Des Moines, came last wee to be at his bedside. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Burkhead, of Adel, and Mrs. Mabel Stiger of Indianola, were visitors at the Douglas home on Sunday.

Death of John Douglas

Van Meter, April 9, Special.—John Holmes Douglas was born in Van Buren county, Iowa, and passed away at his home at Booneville, March 17, 1930, at the age of 68 years, 10 months and 20 days.

When about 3 years of age, he, with his parents, moved to Madison county, where he had resided since with the exception of seven years, which were spent in Valley Junction.

November 19, 1885, he was united in marriage to Mary May Hazen, of Booneville. To this union two children were born, James, of Booneville, and Raymond, of Des Moines. They also have a foster daughter, Mrs. Bessie Swival, of Grand Rapids, Minnesota. He leaves to mourn his death his widow, two sons, a foster daughter, one sister, Mrs. Bessie Burnham, of Des Moines; three brothers, Martin, of Adel; Owen, of Dexter, and Seever, of Kansas City, Missouri; 3 grandchildren, 1 foster grandchild; a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Union Chapel United Brethren Church, Rev. J. H. Hampshire, the pastor, officiating.
