ALBERT EMERY CRAMER - Wheaton, IL

May 17, 1924 - Mar. 14, 2015

Dr. Albert Emery Cramer (90) of Wheaton, IL, went home to his Lord and Savior on March 14, 2015. Albert was born to Grace and Clayton Cramer on May 17, 1924 in Blairstown, Iowa. He attended four rural schools, then Vinton and Dysart High Schools. He served as an artillery man (689th Field Artillery Batallion) in General Patton's Third U.S. Army during World War II in Europe, earning four bronze battle stars. Albert married Josie Ellen Ackelson on September 21, 1951, at Deer Creek Chapel, in the Peru, IA area.

Having been converted to Christ as a teenager, his educational endeavors led him into the Christian ministry, mainly as a professor of Bible and History. His education was at Taylor University, St. Paul Bible Institute, Wheaton College Graduate School, Winona Lake School of Theology, Northern Baptist Theological Seminary, Northwestern University, Cornell University, and New York University. He received eight college and graduate school degrees, including a Doctor of Theology and additional work toward a Ph.D. in European History. Consequently he ministered and taught a total of forty years in the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Saskatchewan, and in the states of New York, Colorado, Montana, and Minnesota.

Albert began his teaching career at London Bible Institute from 1958-61 and then moved to teach Church History and Old Testament until 1965 at Nyack Missionary College. He was Academic Dean of Rockmont College from 1965-70 and later Professor of Church History and Vice-President of Academic Affairs of Canadian Theological Seminary from 1970-84. When he retired in 1997, his last teaching position was at Crown College (St. Paul Bible College) as a Professor of Biblical Studies.

Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Josie Ellen (Ackelson) of Wheaton, IL, and two daughters, Evangeline (Brian) Schock of Wheaton, IL, and Ramona (Jeff) Tucker of West Chicago, IL, and three granddaughters, Amy Schock, Emily Schock, and Kayla Tucker. One sister, Viola Mae Martin, of Waterloo, IA, is surviving.

A memorial service will be held on May 16, 2015, at 2 p.m. at the McCalley-Collins funeral home in Winterset, IA. Burial will follow in the Peru Cemetery.
