Ted Coen, 73, of St. Joseph, Missouri, died Monday, May 4, 2015 at his home.
A visitation with family present to receive friends will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, May 8 at Ochiltree Funeral Service, 1823 N. John Wayne Drive, Winterset, Iowa.
A graveside service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 1 p.m. in the Montpelier Cemetery near Patterson, Iowa and a luncheon will be held at the Patterson United Methodist Church following the service.
Memorials may be directed to the McCarthy Baptist Church, 2710 S. Belt Hwy, St. Joseph, Missouri 64503 and online condolences may be made to the family at ochiltree.com .
Teddy Lee Coen was born November 2, 1941 in Patterson; the son of Charles and Irma (Murray) Coen. He graduated from Winterset High School in 1959 and later attended Simpson and Drake University. He married Doris Hendricks on June 25, 1960 at the First Christian Church in Winterset and to this union two children were born.
Ted was a Culligan Water Softener dealer for 35 years owning and managing several franchises in Nebraska, Texas and Missouri. He was a Rotarian and a member of Water Quality US.
When not working Ted enjoyed vegetable gardening, raising fruit trees, and morel mushroom hunting. He also enjoyed woodworking and he built five homes throughout his lifetime in the different places he and Doris called home. All this said, Ted was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved nothing more than time spent with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Doris of St. Joseph, Missouri; children, Christina Coen of West Des Moines, Iowa and Charles (Marilyn) Coen of St. Joseph, Missouri; a granddaughter, Kaitlyn Coen; nieces, Sherry Coen, Tina Shogrin, and Katrina Coen and nephew, Michael Coen.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jim and Rex Coen; and a sister, Connie Cain.
