A message received at this office this Friday afternoon says that grandmother Reager died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Emma Steward in Des Moines at 3 o'clock. The body will be brought to Peru on the noon train.

Eliza Holstine Reager, daughter of Henry and Margaret Holstine, was born in Champaign county, Ohio, January 10, 1824.

With her parents she moved to Indiana in 1828, from there to Illinois in 1833. In October 1836, moved to Iowa, settling on Casey Prairie in Des Moines county, and with her parents moved to Henry county, Mo., in 1840, where on March 31, 1842 she was united in marrriage to Andrew Z. Means, who died in California in 1850.

To this union six children were born. All having passed away but Mary Susan Husted, who now lives at Winterset, Iowa.

In March, 1852, with her children, she moved back to Iowa, settling near Burlington, in Des Moines county.

On November 5, 1854, she was united in marriage to George W. Reager.

To this union six children were born, of whom four are now living. In April 1855, she with her husband and family moved to Madison county, Iowa, where she has made er home since.

On November 12, 1898, she was again made a widow, since which time she has made her home with her children.

In early life she embraced religion and joined the M. E. church.

She was 85 years, 4 months and 4 days old at the time of her death, and was surrounded by all her children, except the one who was prevented by illness.

Those living are Mrs. Thos. Husted, of Winterset, Mrs. B. F. Seward, Mrs. Jennie Phillips, Mrs. Ida Shaw and J. W. Reager, all of Des Moines. There are 36 grand children and 39 great grandchildren.

The funeral services of Mrs. Eliza Reager were held at Peru, on Sunday, May 16th. Mrs. Reager was an old lady, over eighty-five years of age and when in Winterset resided with her daughter, Mrs. Thomas Husted.

About a year ago she went to Des Moines to live for a time with her daughter, Mrs. Jennie Phillips, and soon after going was stricken with paralysis, from which she never recovered and passed away on May 14th.

Those attending the funeral from here were her grandchildren H. C. Husted, deputy clerk; and Mrs. Rosa Leinard and Mrs. Bell Allen both of Lincoln township. Her daughter, Mrs. Thomas Husted, being ill, was unable to be present at the funeral services.
