Thomas King, Cumming

Thomas Edward King, age 67, of Cumming, passed away early Tuesday morning, April 21, at the Kavanagh House on 56th Street in Des Moines.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 25th at St. Patrick Irish Settlement Catholic Church, rural Cumming. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A visitation with the family will be Friday, April 24th from 4 to 7 p.m. concluding with a Rosary Service at 7 p.m. at O'Leary Celebration of Life Center in Norwalk.

Thomas Edward, the son of Joseph Arthur and Helen Marie (Delles) King, was born July 23, 1947 in Des Moines. He grew up in rural Cumming, with his three brothers and three sisters, where he lived his entire life. Tom was a life-long member of St. Patrick's Irish Settlement Church in Cumming. He graduated in 1965 from Martensdale-St. Marys High School in Martensdale. Tom served his country honorably, as a Vietnam Veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. Tom later married Carol Johnson on July 19, 1975 in New Richland, MN. To this union they had three sons, Kevin, Kyle and Michael.

He was a member and past Post Commander of the Cumming American Legion Post 562 and a member of the Norwalk Knights of Columbus. He was also a former member of the Warren County Pork Producers, and of the St. Patrick's Irish Settlement Cemetery Board, where he served as President for more than 30 years.

Tom farmed his parent's farm for 35 years. In addition, Tom worked for Iowa Pack and Triple F, both of Des Moines. At the time of his death, Tom was employed at Harvest Innovations in Indianola.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 40 years, Carol of Cumming; sons, Kevin of Sioux Falls, SD, Kyle (Missy) of Dallas Center and Michael of Iowa Falls; brothers, Robert (Janice) of Colfax, Paul (Rena) of Cumming, and John (Cheryl) of Independence, MO; sisters, Mary Moore of Kent, Ruth Wilson of Des Moines and Helen Sabol (Norman) of Moline, IL; sister-in-law, Peggy (Tom) Borchard of New Richland, MN; and 28 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Helen of Cumming; mother-in-law, Margaret Vivian Johnson of Hartland, MN; and brothers-in-law, Thomas Wilson of Des Moines and John T. Moore of Kent.
