Death of Eli Woolery - After an illness of nearly a month, Eli Woolery died at his home in Earlham Sunday morning about seven o'clock. He was one of the old settlers of this county and was honored and respected by all who knew him. Nearly all his life he had been engaged in farming and stock raising and by frugal living and good management he had accumulated a competency. For the past several years he had lived quietly at his home in town.

The funeral services were held at his late home Tuesday morning at 8:30, conducted by Revs. W. T. Terry, of Winterset and J. M. Whitehead of this place, following which the remains were conveyed to the Baptist cemetery northeast of Winterset and laid away in the family burial lot.

The subject of this sketch was born in Lawrence county, Indiana, January 31, 1822, and was at the time of his death, aged 81 years, 9 months and 22 days. He was united in marriage with Mary Mathis on February 9, 1843. To this union was born eleven children, four of whom are still living, viz: Mrs. Sarah Fairholm, of St. Catherine, Missouri, I. N. Woolery, Auron, Nebraska, Mrs. Irene Males and G. B. Woolery of Earlham. All were with their father when the summons came. The wife and mother died November 6, 1869. Mr. Woolery was married a second time on December 15, 1870, to Emily Pearson, of Lucas county, Iowa. She died August 15, 1890. He was again married on February 15, 1893 to Hannah J. Brown, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, who with the four children named above, survive him.

In early youth he united with the regular Baptist church and followed its teachings all through his life.

Obituary

Mr. Eli Woolery died at his home in Earlham, Sunday morning, Nov. 22, 1903, aged 81 years, 6 months and 22 days. Mr. Woolery was born in Lawrence county, Indiana, where he spent his early days.

He was married in 1843 to Miss Mary Mathews and removed to Iowa in 1856. To this union eleven children were born four of whom survive him; two boys and two girls all of whom were present at the time of his death. Mrs. Woolery died in November 1869 and in December 1870 he was united in marriage to Emily Pearson of Lucas county, who died in August 1891. He was married to Hannah Brown, of Council Bluffs in 1893, who survives him.

He died of blood poison and old age.

The funeral services were held from the home and he was laid to rest in the Baptist cemetery north of town.
