Page 8About the 1st of May Mr. J. W. Frankelberger took his wife to Chicago to have an operation performed for a tumor. The operation proved fatal and at 9:15 Friday morning, May 7th, the unfortunate woman died from the effects of it. The sad news reached this city the next day and was a shock to everybody, spreading gloom all over the city.
The sad hearted husband accompanied the remains of his loved one home via De Soto. Teams and the hearse from this city met them at that place Sunday. The funeral was held at the residence in this city Tuesday. Rev. Ely preached the funeral sermon. An unusually large concourse of people were in attendance at the last sad rites and the remains of this widely loved and respected lady were quietly laid "beneath the sod and the dew" in the Winterset cemetery.
Mrs. Frankelberger was born in Winterset May 16, 1859, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. Bennett. She lived in Winterset all her life, and was married to Mr. J. W. Frankelberger June 29th, 1887.
She was a member of the Presbyterian church and a devoted Christian lady. Her death removes from Winterset circles one of the most highly esteemed and widely respected ladies of the city, darkens a pleasant and beautiful home, leaves the heart of a kind and devoted husband lonely and sad, and casts a shadow over the hearts of relatives and a multitude of friends.

One of the saddest funerals this city has seen for many, many days, is that of Mrs. J. W. Frankelberger, nee Minta Bennett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. Bennett. Born and brought up here, a life-long favorite in Winterset society, as girl, young woman and wife a model, her early death casts an unwonted gloom over the face of every friend, and with her, every one who knew her, was a friend.
Only eight days ago, accompanied by her husband, she started to Chicago, for the purpose of having performed a surgical operation, or some other treatment, that had become necessary. But the relief expected of the operation came in the releasing of the spirit, and at 9:15 Friday evening she passed away.
The remains were brought home Saturday evening. There being no train on the Winterset road on Sunday, the hearse and carriages met the party at De Soto Sunday morning. The funeral services, conducted by Dr. Ely, were held at the late residence at 2:30 this afternoon.
This closes one of the brightest and loveliest lives that ever graced this city, and leaves a disconsolate husband and weeping parents and a large circle of sorrowing friends.
