This community was deeply shocked Friday morning when a message was received announcing the death of Mrs. Margaret Thomson, who was one of the oldest and most respected citizens of Earlham. While Mrs. Thomson has been in ill health for many years, her sudden demise was unexpected and was received by her many friends with much surprise and profound sorrow. The funeral services were held from the family residence at 2 p.m., Sunday July 17, conducted by Rev. D. H. Garrett of Pitzer, Iowa, after which, interment was made in Earlham cemtery.

Margaret Madden was born June 27, 1845, at Liverpool, England; came to Scott county, Iowa, in March, 1850; was married to J. R. Thomson December 14, 1865; moved to Earlham, Iowa, in March, 1869. Departed this life July 15, 15, 1904, aged 59 years and 18 days. To mourn her loss besided her husband, she leaves two sons, Hugh S. and John Charles, and their families; one sister, Mary J. Greer, of Eldridge, Iowa and three brothers, W. S. Madden, Holton, Kansas, J. G. Madden, Long Grove, Iowa, and G. M. Madden, Valley Falls, Kansas.

Mrs. Margaret Madden was a true, loving wife and fond mother. She was respected and loved by all who made her acquaintance, and while we mourn her taking away, we are reminded that it is not all of life to live, or all of death to die. God is the giver, and life is with us a partnership, and the great problem of life is to make the ideal real, and connect the divine.
