Dr. Joseph (Joe) A. Borgen, 74, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Jan. 21, 2015, with his wife, Deborah Ivis Borgen, by his side.
A celebration of life will be held Thursday, March 26, from 4-6 p.m. at the Lake View in Building 7 on the Ankeny Campus of DMACC. Memorial contributions may be directed to DMACC Foundation, Dr. Joseph A. Borgen Endowment Fund, 2006 S. Ankeny Blvd., Building 22, Ankeny IA 50023.
Joe was born Dec. 14, 1940, the son of Norris and Gertrude (Felde) Borgen in Viroqua, Wisc. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Stout with a B.S. and M.S., completing additional graduate studies at the University of Michigan and receiving his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois Champaign. Before his retirement, Joe served as President and CEO of Des Moines Area Community College for 20 years from 1981 to 2001. Prior to his tenure at DMACC, he served as President and CEO of Danville Community College.
He was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah of Bella Vista, Ark.; children, Christine Borgen (Chris Eaborn) of Geneva, Switzerland, Kevin Borgen of San Diego, Calif., Amy Roberts of Mahomet, Ill., and Michael Cleff of Terre Haute, Ind.; his twin, Mary Ankerberg of Wauwatosa, Wisc.; four grandchildren; his in-laws, Leonard and Donna Ivis of Parker, Colo.; Dave Ivis (Jean) of Parker, Colo.; Dan Ivis of Boone; Jerry Bernholtz (Dianne) of New Virginia; and Sherry Renze (Jerry) of Carroll, and many other family members and friends.
