Thursday, July 30, 1908L. A. Collins was born in Madison county, Iowa, August 16, 1861, died July 12, 1908, aged 46 years, 10 months, 27 days. He was united in marriage to Anna Black at her home near St. Charles October 30, 1882. To this union five children were born, three sons and two daughters, all of which together with their mother, also the aged father, Elijah Collins of Minnesota, two full brothers, Anderson Collins of Truro, and Mark Collins of Des Moines, three half brothers, Hermon, Walter and Charles Collins, one half sister, Mollie Nicoson, together with many other near relatives remain to mourn the loss of the deceased.
In January 1908 he with his daughter, Dawn, and her husband went to Hereford, Texas, to purchase a home. Here he bought a farm and had just completed a dwelling house, preparatory to the moving of the rest of the family when he was taken sick Tuesday evening July 7th, with appendicitis. During his sickness his suffering was intense up until within a few hours of death, when he became easy and quietly passed away at Hereford, Texas, Sunday noon July 12th. When he became conscious of the fact that he could not get well he expressed a desire to see the loved ones at home once more from whom he had been separated for several months, and tell them again of his love for them, yet he was willing to depart and be with Christ if he saw fit to call him.
The deceased united with the church when a mere boy and has lived a devoted Christian life. For a number of years he had superintended the Sunday school of the Christian church at St. Charles, he also took an active part in the Endeavor work and was a member of the official board. His departure will be a loss to the home, to the church, to the community and yet that which is a loss to others will be a gain to him, for he was ready to depart and be with Christ.
The funeral was conducted in the park at St. Charles by Rev. G. E. Nichols, pastor of the Christian church.
