DARRELL ALLEN, Urbandale

Darrell Mac Allen, 82, left his earthly home to join his Savior in heaven on Sunday, March 22nd, 2015. He was born in Winterset, IA on August 8th, 1932 to Bernard and Rose (Boatwright) Allen and at the age of nine, the family moved to West Des Moines. After High School he joined the Army to serve in the Korean War from 1951-1954. In December of 1957, Darrell married Marlys Peterson and together they made their home in Urbandale and were blessed with three children Doug, Kerry and Connie.

Darrell was employed by Anderson Erickson Dairy for 34 years and enjoyed many years of retirement traveling throughout the US and abroad as well as spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed sports and was his children and grandchildren's biggest fan as he watched them participate over the years. Darrell was a long-time member of Westchester Evangelical Free Church in Des Moines and served in many areas including children's ministries and group Bible studies.

Darrell was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle and was loved as a father-figure to many nephews, nieces and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Dorothy Kelley and brothers, Bernard "Sonny Boy" & Jack. He is survived by his wife Marlys, son, Doug (Maureen), daughters, Kerry (Mike) McGuire and Connie Howat, grandchildren, Nick & Derek Allen, Megan, Kassidy, Shannon & Keegan McGuire, Jacob, Savannah and Jared Howat, sisters Rosalie (Ronnie) Hampton, Sue (Mack) Oglesbee and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at Westchester Evangelical Free Church with the family present from 5-7pm. Funeral Services to be held at 10:30 am, Friday, March 27, 2015 at Westchester Evangelical Free Church, 4919 Aurora Ave., Des Moines, IA, 50310. Burial will be at McDivitt Cemetery in Urbandale followed by a luncheon at the church for family and friends.

Memorial contributions may be given to WEFC for camp scholarships to Hidden Acres or to Jesus Film mission trips
