Esther Veltman Services Monday

Funeral services for Mrs. Esther J. Veltman, 83, of Des Moines were held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 23, at the First United Methodist Church in Des Moines with Dr. David Stout and her son, Rev. Dean Veltman officiating. Burial was in the Leon Cemetery at Leon.

Mrs. Veltman died April 19 at the Decatur County Hospital In Leon.

The daughter of John Albert and Harriet Haverkamp Jongewaard, she was born on July 11, 1895, near Orange City. She was united in marriage with Dr. John F. Veltman on September 4, 1925, and four children were born to this union.

They made their home In Winterset for 31 years where Mrs. Veltman assisted her husband as a registered nurse duringhis medical practice. She was a graduate of the Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago, Illinois.

After leaving Winterset, the Veltmans lived in Nashville and Knoxvllle, Tenn. Mrs. Veltman moved to Des Moines after her husband's death in 1967.

She was active in study clubs, community projects and school activities. She was amember of the First United Methodist Church in Des Moines.

Survivors Include four children, Dean Veltman of Hinton, W. Va., Kathleen Parkins of Arvada, Colo., Lois Slade of Leon, and Marian Agnew of Des Moines; a brother, Lawrence Jongewaard of Washington, Iowa; 11 grandchildren, and one great granddaughter.

Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents, two brothers and five sisters.
