Former Resident Died in Sioux City

The following item was taken from the Sioux City Journal regarding the recent death of Willard Fry. He grew up in this community and graduated from the Earlham high school in 1910. He attended business college at Penn college in Oskaloosa. Burial was made in the Memorial cemetery at Sioux City.

Willard W. Fry, 52, 403 29th street, died unexpectedly Thursday night at Stone park while on a family picnic in celebration of Mrs. Fry’s birthday.

Mr. Fry had been district manager of the Travelers Insurance company for 12 years and had been employed by the Travelers Insurance company for 20 years. He was born February 17, 1893, in Earlham, Iowa and came to Sioux City from Des Moines in 1932. He married Marie Hull, June 27, 1917, in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He was a member of the First Methodist church, the High-12 club and the Consistory.

Survivors include his widow; his mother, Mrs. Savannah M. Fry of Ames, Iowa; one son Sgt. Jack W. Fry, now stationed in China with the signal corps; one daughter, Mary Enit Fry, a student at Grinnell college; two brothers, Dr. B. J. Fry, Corning, Iowa, and H. H. Fry, Huron, South Dakota, and one sister, Mrs. Fletcher B. Allen, Ames.

Coordinator's note: Although the obituary states that he was born in Earlham, the family lived just across the county line in Dallas County and had an Earlham P.O. Per the 1895 census, he was born in Dallas County.
