THE COUNTY NEWS – St. Charles

Albert Carter, while out cutting wood Monday morning, suddenly dropped dead. He leaves to mourn his loss a wife and small baby, besides father, mother, two sisters and a brother.

Albert was one who had many warm friends; was a loving husband and father, and the entire community feels the deep sorrow occasioned by his death, and it brings forcibly to our minds the passage of Scripture :”Be ye therefore ready for the Son of Man cometh in a time when ye think not”.

We can only hope that he was prepared to meet his maker; and while we mourn his loss as a friend and citizen, his memory and the good deeds he has done will still remain and bloom into full fruition; and his light though thus early extinguished will shine from the golden shower as a beacon to those left behind to sail the turbulent sea of life without his present help and guidance.

Funeral services were conducted at Blair Chapel Wednesday, after which his remains were interred in the city of the dead at that place. We extend to those bereaved are fullest sympathy.

Obituary

Vincent Albert Carter, son of W. A. and Elizabeth M. Carter, was born in Madison county, Iowa March 16, 1875 and died at his home near Hanley, Ia., Feb. 24, 1908, aged 32 years, 11 months and 3 days.

He was married to Leota McDaniel, Feb. 28, 1897. To this union was born one son, a babe a few weeks old. Two years ago he renewed the covenant made some years ago and has since lived a pious Christian life. He was a daily reader of God’s word and delighted in singing the old hymns. Just one week before he died, he asked his brother if he prayed before retiring and he said, I do and you should.

His life was spent in this community and his kindly, cheerful, pleasant nature secured for him a host of friends, and his constant home life and helpfulness has so endeared him to the family, that they are almost broken hearted over his sudden death. He leaves to mourn his death, his young wife and babe, his parents, two sisters and one brother and many relatives and friends.

The funeral services were held at Clair Chapel, conducted by Rev. Wm. Mercer, of the M. E. church and his body laid to rest in the family lot at that place.
