In the spring of 1853 she, with her parents came to Iowa, spending the winter near Montezuma. The following spring they came to a farm in Madison County where she spent the rest of her life. At that time the country was new and the hardships great.

She was married to Eli Arnold February 2, 1865 and to this union 3 children were born, Emma Bell who passed away August 17, 1890, Mahala B. Morris, Truro and S. Melvin who lives in the old home. She came to this country when it was new but she had the true spirit of the early pioneers and endured the toil and hardships of the early settlers with patience and cheerfulness. At the age of 15 years she accepted Christ as her Savior and united with the M. E. church. Her entire life has been a shining example of true Christian faith and she attended church services as long as her health permitted but her sight began to fail her several years ago and she has been almost totally blind the last years of her life but her mind was clear and active and she was always so cheerful and it was her greatest pleasure to have her friends come to her, come where they always received a warm welcome.
