Orris H. Smith was born in Burton, Georgia county, Ohio, Oct.13, 1833. and passed away after a short illness at his home May 8,1910 at the age of 76 years, 7 months and 5 days. He came with his parents to Linn county Iowa when a boy. He was married to Eliza Pisel, Nov. 10 1853 to this union was born four sons and eight daughters. Two sons and four dauthers with their mother, had preceded the father and husband to the world beyond. The six children now living were present at the funeral, also a great number of other relatives. The funeral service was held at Pleasent View church, of which he had been a member for about twenty years, on Friday May 20th, conducted by a former pastor Rev. J.G. Duling of Tingley. The great number that were unable to get inside the church is sufficient evidence of the high esteem in which Mr. Smith was held by his neighbors. He had lived at the home where he died for over forty years but had sold it about two weeks before his death.
