RAYMOND C. McDONALD, Winterset

August 27, 1926 - March 14, 2015

Raymond C. McDonald, 88, of Winterset died Saturday, March 14, 2015 at the Winterset Care Center South.

A visitation will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 16 at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset, where the family will be present at this time to receive friends. Funeral services will begin at 3:00 p.m., Monday, March 16 at Ochiltree Funeral Service with burial to follow at the Winterset Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family and online condolences may be left at ochiltree.com.

Raymond Cooter McDonald, son of Malcolm Earl McDonald and Mary Elizabeth (Cooter) McDonald, was born August 27, 1926, in Madison County, Iowa. He graduated from Winterset High School in 1945.

On May 26, 1945, Raymond entered the Army, and he served until November 4, 1946. Upon returning home, he farmed around the Winterset area until he retired.

On March 12, 1957, Raymond was united in marriage to Nellie Ruth Drake of Macksburg, Iowa. Raymond and Nellie made their home around the Winterset area their entire married life. He enjoyed shop work, traveling and working with horses. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Winterset, Iowa, and also was a Mason.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Marion McDonald and Kenneth McDonald; sister, Phyllis Thomas; two sister-in-laws, Alice McDonald and Irma McDonald; two brother-in-laws, Dan Thomas and Jim Raftès.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nellie McDonald of Winterset; sister Ann Raftès of Des Moines, IA; sister-in-law, Wilmarie McDonald of St. Charles, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
