Thursday, November 9, 1944Mr. George Mitchell, former business man in Earlham, died at the hospital at Mission, Texas, October 22nd. His death came suddenly and unexpectedly following a hernia operation. He had seemed to be recovering nicely and expected to return to his home soon, when a blood clot proved fatal.
Mr. Mitchell was born Christmas day in 1875 near Van Meter, Iowa. He was married on February 22, 1899 to Myrtle Roseman and they lived on a farm near Earlham for several years. Then they moved to Earlham, where they were in the mercantile business.
They moved Texas about 1919 and for a number of year Mr. Mitchell had been the engineer in charge of the pumping for an irrigation company. He was 68 years old at the time of his death.
He leaves his wife and one son, Roseman and two grandsons, all of Mission, Texas, and two sisters and four brothers.

MISSION — A pioneer resident of Mission, George Merrill Mitchell, 68, died at the McAllen Municipal hospital Sunday night.
He ha lived here for 27 years and was employed at one of the pumping plants south of Mission.
Survivors include his wife and son, Roseman Mitchell, and two grandsons, all of Mission; two sisters and four brothers, all in Iowa.
Funeral services will be annuonced by the Kriedler Funeral home.

MISSON—Funeral services for George M. Mitchell, well known engineer, will be held Wednesday afternoon at 3 at the First Methodist church in Mission with Rev. Allan G. Roe officiating. The body will lie in state at the Kriedler chapel in McAllen until 1 p. m. Wednesday.
Pallbearers will be H. H. Ewing, Ray Landry, Ray Goodwin, W. H. Kilgore, L. T. Fredricks and R. R. Sheeler. Burial will be in Laurel Heights cemetery.
Mitchell died late Sunday night at the McAllen hospital at the age of 68. He has been a resident of Mission since 1917, coming here from Erlham, Iawo. He had been engineer at a United Irrigation Co. pumping plant 27 years and an officer of the Methodist church more than 25 years. He pioneered in citrus production in the Valley.
