Obituary: Susan Phillips was born in Coshocton county, Ohio where she lived until the time of her marriage to George Bonham of Madison county, Iowa.

Soon after marriage, in March, 1875, she with her husband, came to Madison county, Iowa and since they have lived happily at their present home near Macksburg.

For more than two years she suffered much, being confined a great part of the time to her bed, and when able to walk at all, only with assistance. From her first illness all that many skillful physicians and loving friends could do for her was of no avail; and when December 1st she took “la grippe” her vital powers were to weak to resist the attack. Although she had a strong desire to remain with her family for a few years longer, she surrendered her will to that of the master whom she loved, and after having said goodbye to sorrowing relatives and friends, she passed away peacefully at five o’clock, Tuesday morning, January 2d, 1894.

While yet a child she gave her heart to the Savior and continued his faithful follower until called to her heavenly home.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. O’Flying, pastor of the M. E. church of which the deceased has from early girlhgood been a consistent member.

The discourse was given from the text found in 2d Corinthians, 4th chapter and 17th verse.
She left a husband and two children, and many relatives and friends to mourn the loss, and went to meet a young son that had gone before.
